Friends of Trinity River Refuge Trinity River NWR in Liberty, TX, now has a 140-foot fishing/observation pier thanks to the efforts of the Friends of Trinity River Refuge. The Friends raised the necessary funds, secured plans that met the appropriate standards, contracted for professional work where needed, ordered the supplies, and coordinated volunteers to complete the pier in time to serve as the centerpiece of the refuge centennial celebration. A few months later the group added a concrete parking pad for disabled access. In addition to this major project, the Friends were active in other refuge projects, such as developing a bird checklist and planning and designing a butterfly/hummingbird garden that will involve the participation of various community groups. |
