Skippy Reeves As manager of Okefenokee NWR, GA, Skippy Reeves has faced a variety of issues including water and air quality, fire management and mining threats, in addition to endangered species and habitat restoration concerns. Skippy helped form the Greater Okefenokee Association of Landowners (GOAL), a partnership developed to design and implement a fire management program that recognizes the dependence on fire of the Okefenokee Swamp ecosystem while managing the wildfires so as to not threaten the surrounding commercial timberland and residential communities. Skippy was recently involved in a resolution whereby Dupont agreed to set aside a proposal to mine an area adjacent to Okefenokee NWR for titanium and instead place those nearly 6000 acres into protected status as part of the Dupont Land Legacy program. |
