Friends of Quivira The Friends of Quivira NWR have been providing support to Quivira NWR in Kansas for over 5 years and maintained a full schedule of events during the NWRS Centennial year. Activities ranged from producing the Quivira NWR Centennial Quilt to organizing family-oriented hikes, crafts, and a fishing derby. The Friends helped coordinate educational programs and workshops on migrating raptors and monarch butterflies and hosted the Kansas State Eco-Meet natural history and wildlife competition for high school teams from throughout the state. Special Refuge Week celebrations drew visitors to the refuge from a widespread area. Through these and other programs, the Friends brought the community in to the Refuge and increased local awareness and recognition for Quivira NWR. |
