Friends of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center The Friends of the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center has been ambitiously supporting the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center (PWLC) in the Fergus Falls Wetland Management District for nearly twenty years, from fundraising for facility and exhibit construction to providing educational programs and special events. The Prairie Science class brings 50 fifth graders from the Fergus falls public schools to the PWLC every school day and has helped make the PWLC a respected source of environmental information for the community and the region. In 2003, the Friends involved several community groups, local corporations and regional foundations in the development of Song from the Tall Grass, a musical that connects the audience with the tall grass prairie ecosystem and its heritage. Song performances drew nearly 5000 people from throughout the upper Midwest. The Friends also planned and developed Seasons of the Tall Grass: An interactive guide to restoring Tallgrass Prairie, a comprehensive collection of prairie restoration information applicable to small scale home landscaping and to large scale habitat restoration projects. |
