Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Association The Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Association works to support the Ottawa NWR in Ohio and promote a better understanding of the western Lake Erie marshlands habitat. They are strong supporters of the federal Junior Duck stamp competition sponsored by the Ottawa NWR and have worked long and hard on the campaign to fund a new environmental education/visitor center for the refuge. They have also been active in building a bookstore at the refuge headquarters and enabling the refuge to expand its business hours to include weekends, starting a Saturday Wildlife Series Program that provides lectures and field trips during the peak summer visitation period. By raising the funds to purchase a six passenger golf cart shuttle, the ONWRA has provided access for disabled visitors to enjoy the refuges nature trails. The group has also taken the lead in promoting regional friends networking, hosting the startup meeting bringing together Ohio, Indiana and Michigan friends groups. |
