Friends of the Great Swamp NWR

The Friends of the Great Swamp NWR provide a wide range of visitor contact and information services for the Great Swamp NWR in New Jersey. The group secured grants to fund the construction of a Visitor Information Building and to fund the development of an auto tour route guide and an educational video, Frogs and Toads of Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. The Friends sponsor annual events, such as the refuge's Fall Festival, Turkey Walk, and photo contest as well as special events, such as an Oral History Day to collect and produce a lasting record of local history. They staff the refuge visitation center, maintain a native garden, conduct guided tours and frog walks, and provide educational materials to local libraries and environmental education centers. The Friends continue to broaden the scope of their activities to further involve the community and support the refuge's operational needs.
