Dunes Center

The Dunes Center friends group operates the visitor contact center and conducts interpretive tours for the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes NWR in California, part of the Hopper Mountain NWR Complex. Dunes Center volunteers have developed the visitor center into a science research/learning facility for students, educators and researchers. The Dunes Center helped secure an $8.5 million permanent endowment for dune restoration and visitor services, thereby providing funds enabling Refuge staff and partners to complete such projects as the mapping of both invasive species and rare native species in the dunes. Their cooperative stewardship continues to help the refuge assess and restore the dune ecosystem.
