tour. Mark Madison, NCTC’s remarkable historian interprets
some of the treasures on site. These include illegally smuggled
contraband items seized by Fish and Wildlife authorities,
such as stuffed tigers and bears, exotic ivory carvings, and
furniture. Items of historic interest are viewed as well,
such as Rachel Carson’s magnifying glass. The brief tour is
a fascinating glimpse of items the public rarely gets to sees,
and is of interest to audiences of all ages, but is particularly
appealing to children. Members may join us beforehand for
dinner at NCTC’s first-rate cafeteria that includes a wide
variety of entrees, and a soup and salad bar. July 19,
2007 at 6:30 p.m.
Wine
tasting. The Friends also hold a membership drive
wine-and-cheese tasting. This is held in the lobby of the
Auditorium building at NCTC. Please come to enjoy a sampling
of sustainably harvested wines, and organic cheeses. The event
is open to all. We encourage existing members to renew at
this time and bring a friend or family who would like to join
the Friends group. The museum at NCTC is usually open at this

Open
House. Friends members have the opportunity to assist
with this event for children and adults, which ofers hands-on
conservation-related activities, wildlife demonstrations,
presentations and films. Oct 20, 2007 10:00 a.m. - 4:00
p.m. (time is tentative).
Ongoing Events
Films. Monthly conservation film presentations for course attendees and Friends members are offered in the evening the second Wednesday of each month. These will be announced by email.
Dinner with conservation speakers. Friends members to have the opportunity to have dinner with the lecturers from the “Conservation in the Community” lecture series. These dates and times will be announced by email. Of course, Friends members are always welcome at the lectures, usually co-sponsored by the Friends!
Special Events
Tree plantings. Members also have the opportunity to participate in tree plantings at the facility. This is part of the effort to restore the native hardwood forest. These events are scheduled on relatively short notice, and members are notified by email.
