Title: Birdwatching Children

Caption: Birdwatching at San Luis National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge complex is comprised of three National Wildlife Refuges and the Grasslands Wildlife Management Area (GWMA) located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Here, birdwatching is a popular recreational activity. Keeping common species common, and appreciating biodiversity through environmental interpretation are important activities at refuges. (At San Luis National Wildlife Refuge, the Point Reyes Birds Observatory has been working with Refuge biologists with monitoring Neotropical, migratory birds to determine relationships between riparian habitat quality and population levels in the San Joaquin Valley. The objective of this cooperative effort is to help reverse the trend of declining migratory bird populations.)
