Title: Students observe wildlife through scopes

Caption: Here we see a group of students at Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska, observing birds through spotting scopes. Wildlife watching is one of the "big six" recreational activities associated with National Wildlife Refuges. The other five are: hunting, fishing, wildlife photography, environmental education, and environmental interpretation. The 9-million acre Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge is located in eastern interior Alaska, about 100 miles north of Fairbanks. It includes the Yukon Flats, a vast wetland basin bisected by the Yukon River.
