Title: Loggerhead Shrike

Location: Laguna Atascosa NWR, Rio Hondo, TX

Caption: Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus), a species of open country with some shrubs and trees (often inhabiting hedgerows) is a bird suffering significant regional declines. The Partners in Flight "Watch List" places this species as one worthy of serious monitoring. The bird will prey on larger insects as well as small animals. This photo, of a wintering bird, is from Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.
