National Fishing week is an annual celebration in June
designed to increase public awareness of the joys of
recreational fishing and conservation of our fisheries
resource. Refuges provide outstanding saltwater and
freshwater experiences for both novice and experienced
anglers alike. Today, over 250 refuges are open for
fishing. Many of these refuges celebrate National Fishing
Week and National Hunting and Fishing Day with fishing
derbies, special youth hunts, and related environmental
education events designed to expose the next generation
of conservationists to these activities.
