Title: FWS Volunteer Holds Prothonotary Warbler

Caption: Here, a volunteer holds a Prothonotary Warbler (Protonotaria citrea) to show a young girl at a bird-banding demonstration. Banding helps us study and track the migration of many of our species. Volunteers are vital to maintaining the Refuge System. They provide about 20 percent of the labor on refuges, or about 1.5 million hours per year. Under professional direction, these volunteers contribute to wildlife appreciation and interpretation at many of our most popular refuges.
